Introducing: Paleo Chocolate Shake. Since I have been on the autoimmune protocol diet, I have had a few chocolate cravings. In order to indulge and get my chocolate fix, I created this delicious chocolate shake. It has healthy, high quality ingredients, and it tastes amazing!
If you are following an autoimmune protocol, you know how hard it can be to avoid certain foods. We are still human and, darn it, we have cravings! This chocolate shake is made with avocado, coconut milk, almond butter, cocoa powder, and honey. I added some other things, such as MCT oil (this is the one I use), anti-inflammatory spices, and collagen to keep it AIP and keto. Vanilla and coffee are great ways to enhance the flavor of the cocoa powder. Depending on the protocol you are following, coffee and almonds may not be allowed. Find a way to make this shake work for you!
Suit Your Diet
This shake can be keto, paleo, AIP, and anti-inflammatory in order to suit your diet.
Keto: Use full-fat coconut milk, and omit the almond milk. Be sure to use the MCT oil! Instead of honey, use your favorite keto-friendly sweetener (I like Swerve, which you can find here).
AIP: Use fill-fat coconut milk, and omit the coffee and almond butter (unless allowed on your protocol).
Anti-inflammatory: Add more spices like cinnamon, clove, or even pumpkin pie spice!
Alternatively, if you aren’t following AIP or keto, you can substitute banana instead of avocado for the base. Bananas are naturally sweet, so you may need to adjust the amount of honey used. Or, you may not need honey at all!
It can be difficult to indulge in a sweet craving when following an AIP diet. Aside from this delicious paleo chocolate shake, I try to think of creative ways to eat healthy sweets. I love to have slices apples with unsweetened almond butter, honey, and shredded unsweetened coconut.
Following an AIP diet means trying to stay low carb, so it can be difficult to get creative at times. Berries are a great option, too. I love to make homemade coconut whipped cream and eat it over fresh berries.

AIP Chocolate Shake
- ½ avocado
- ½ can coconut cream full fat coconut milk put in fridge overnight
- ¾ cup almond milk use coconut milk for strict AIP
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 teaspoons MCT oil
- 2 tablespoons almond butter omit for strict AIP
- 1 scoop collagen powder
- ½ tsp vanilla
- 1 tbsp coffee omit for strict AIP
- Add all ingredients to blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!
