A Little Bit About Me
Hello and welcome to Jam to the Beets, the place where I share my recipes and some other stuff. My name is Jessica Braboy, and I have a serious passion about food. I live in Arizona where it’s too hot to go out in the summer. I spend my days cooking and thinking of delicious creations.
I am originally from New Mexico where I lived in Albuquerque, but spent a lot of time in Red River with my dad. My mom and I moved to Arizona, and I have been here ever since. Except for about a year after college, when I moved back to Red River to hang out with my dad and take a break.
My mom is a huge influence in my cooking. She has always been an excellent cook, and she’s taught me most of what I know. There are pictures of me in the kitchen trying to cook when I just a wee little one. I really got into cooking when I lived at my dorm in college, where I had a full kitchen. I would have weekly dinners at my place for all my friends on campus.
Education and Careers
In 2012 I graduated from Arizona State University with a BS in Food Service and Nutrition Management. I have always worked in food service, and I had a newfound love and enthusiasm for nutrition. After graduating, I decided to go to Southwest Institute of Healing Arts to acquire a Holistic Nutrition Wellness Practitioner diploma. When studying, I concentrated in Culinary and took many amazing cooking classes. I currently work in food service. I also teach cooking classes at a local cooking school called Mix Cooking School.
Variety of Recipes
I have toyed around with different lifestyle diets over the years. You will see lots of different recipes for everyone. Keto, paleo, autoimmune paleo, vegetarian, and low carb are some of the many recipes you will find in this site. Do not worry, I do my best to label them clearly! You will find everything from healthy, to not-so-healthy (but certainly delicious) recipes here. I promise, there is something here for everyone!
In November of 2019 at age 29 I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Some of this blog is about my journey in finding a diagnosis. Also how I have dealt with the disease so far. I hope to reach others with MS to offer support. I follow the autoimmune paleo diet for the most part, but as you can see many of my recipes do not.
